Tailor-made cloths in Bangkok!?

Have you ever found clothes you love, but they’re never a perfect fit?

I’ve always loved shopping for outfits. But after moving from Japan to Thailand, I struggled to find outfits that felt exactly right.

Then one day, I discovered something amazing — tailor-made outfits.

Choosing the fabrics, picking the design, and having everything made to fit my body perfectly.

I didn’t know anything about fabrics or sewing, but I couldn’t resist trying.

And that’s how my Bangkok Tailor-Made Journey began.

Where to Buy Fabric in Bangkok

The first step was to find fabrics.

In Bangkok, there is a famous building called China World, where you can find floor after floor filled with an incredible variety of fabrics.

But I had also heard some scary stories.

Apparently, there are so many fabrics that everything eventually starts to look the same. People say they get completely overwhelmed — some even joking about getting “fabric drunk” and leaving the place totally defeated!

So I decided to keep my idea very simple: a dress in a bright, flattering color.

Even if I made mistakes, the important thing was to start somewhere.

Armed with that simple plan, I headed to China World.

My First Visit to China World Fabric Market

The moment I stepped inside, I understood what everyone meant — fabrics, fabrics, and more fabrics everywhere.

Shops were packed tightly next to each other, and I had absolutely no idea about the price range.

I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed when I happened to walk into a shop run by a friendly-looking uncle.

And that’s where I found it — a beautiful pink salmon-colored fabric.

Even better, it was incredibly cheap: 40 baht per meter.

I liked the texture, and I thought,

“It’s so affordable — why not?”

So I decided to trust my instinct and buy it.

Even though I originally planned to make just a dress for myself, I suddenly thought it would be cute to make overalls for my son too.

And if it’s for my son, maybe blue would be nice… so I ended up buying two colors.

I showed the shop staff a photo of the designs, and they advised me that I would probably need 3 meters for the dress and 1.5 meters for the overalls.

As you can see in the photo above, they cut the fabrics directly from the roll.

Pink (3m for my dress): 120 baht

Blue (3m for another dress + 1.5m for my son’s overalls = 4.5m): 180 baht

Total: 300 baht

This time, my goal was simply to start — even if I made mistakes — so I chose the fabrics based on price and intuition.

But I wonder…

After gaining more experience, will I one day be able to choose fabrics based on the perfect balance between quality and price?
