Choosing Where to Get a Tailor-Made Dress in Bangkok

After buying my fabrics (read about my first fabric shopping adventure in Bangkok), it was time to have them made.
In Bangkok, you can either go to a tailor shop or hire an independent tailor.
Some independent tailors even come to your home once you make an appointment — a huge time-saver compared to visiting a shop.
For my first tailor-made dress, I decided to go with a private tailor for convenience.
Communicating Easily via LINE with an Independent Tailor

Since it was my first experience, I wanted someone trustworthy. I chose Ms. Mui, a well-known independent tailor.
Ms. Mui (Line ID: 0819895808 — search by phone number, shared with permission)
I sent a message: “I want to make a dress…”
She quickly asked, “What design?” and “Where’s your house?” — very efficient. Simple English was enough.
Ms. Mui was busy at the time, so it took a bit of back-and-forth to set a suitable appointment.
Preparing to Avoid Mistakes

Even though I was ready to accept some mistakes — it was my first try! — I wanted to minimize them as much as possible.
Since I don’t speak Thai, I collected several reference images of dresses and printed them out.
My key points for the dress:
- Soft, flowy A-line silhouette
- V-neck in the front
- V-neck in the back, tied with a thin ribbon
- Slightly shorter in front and a little longer in the back
Fast and Professional: Measurements Done in 10 Minutes

At the appointment, I handed over the fabrics and explained the details in simple English.
Ms. Mui immediately understood and helped decide:
- Depth of the V-neck (not too deep, just right)
- No lining needed (she even said “uraji” in Japanese)
Then came the measurements — and wow, she was lightning fast! From shoulders to legs, everything was measured in minutes.
My son acted as a little assistant, which was adorable. (I had prepped a sample dress for reference, but it wasn’t needed.)
The whole appointment lasted 10–15 minutes only.
Ms. Mui told me the price verbally, and I paid after the dress was completed.
