The Adul Shop I Found

This is the shop I newly found.
Adul Dressmaking Shop
Diamond Tours Building, Soi Setthi Thawi Sap,
Khlong Toei, Bangkok 10110
Starting with a Copy

Since I never really know what to expect from a new tailor, I’ve decided that my first order at a new shop should always be something simple — usually a copy.
This time, I asked them to recreate this top in beige fabric with a black ribbon.
Someone Spoke English!

And this time, there was actually someone who spoke English.
She hadn’t been there when I first visited during my tailor hunt.
I think she may have been the owner. She modestly said she only spoke a little English, but honestly, it was more than enough.
She told me the shop has been running for around 18 years, and that all the dresses shown in the photos displayed there were made by Adul.

Apparently, you can also choose fabric from the shelves in the shop and have something made with it.
She even mentioned that sometimes, if a customer requests a certain kind of fabric, they will go out and look for it for them.
As for my order, there was no hesitation.
“OK, OK!”
Everything seemed easy enough.
Price and Turnaround Time

The part I was most curious about was the price.
I had a feeling Adul might be a little more expensive than the other tailors I had tried.
The price for this top was 1,300 baht, paid in advance.
At the Rama 4 Tailor or RINNA, I think something similar would probably be around 800 baht, so I had already decided that anything over 1,500 baht would feel a little too much for me.
At 1,300 baht, though, I thought…Maybe I can still give it a try.
So I agreed and asked when it would be ready.
And then came the surprise.
She pointed to a date just 4 days later and said, “How about this?”
Wait…4 days!?
Until now, the fastest turnaround I had experienced was around 2 weeks, and I had come to think that 3 to 4 weeks was pretty normal for custom tailoring.
So hearing “4 days” completely overturned my idea of how long tailoring was supposed to take.
I did wonder if maybe the higher price was partly because the turnaround was so fast. Still, I went for it.
Next Journey: The Finished Piece from Adul
Will it really be ready in just 4 days?
And more importantly…
How will it turn out?
