Where We Went

Talat Noi is a riverside neighborhood near Yaowarat, Bangkok’s Chinatown. Its name apparently means “small market” in Thai.

It’s a stylish area filled with colorful street art and charming cafés.

There were so many places I wanted to visit, but since it was an extremely hot day and I was there with my son, we narrowed it down to just a few spots.

Even so, we had a great time.

A beautiful shop filled with clothes and shoes that are fun to admire even if you’re only browsing. Everything is handmade.

There was also plenty of adorable street art around the neighborhood.

Mother Roaster

A quiet, relaxing café where you can take a break from the heat.

The café is on the second floor, but the first floor — beside the staircase shown in the photo — looks like a storage space filled with scrap materials, which was quite a surprise.

The patterned fabric wasn’t long enough for the back of the shoulder straps, so the tailor added some plain white fabric.

It does look a little unusual, doesn’t it? Haha.

But I simply wore it with the confidence of someone saying, Yes, it was designed this way.

Summary

I may not have been able to wear the original dress as effortlessly as the model in the photo on the left, but I was very happy that it had been refashioned into something that suited me and felt comfortable to wear.

I no longer had to worry about the neckline being too revealing or the length being too long.

Most importantly, I was glad that a dress I had bought but never worn didn’t have to remain forgotten in the back of my closet.

Refashioning also costs less than having a completely new garment made from fabric.

Buying an affordable ready-made piece and having it transformed into something that suits me better might become another new obsession.
